Our role

Providing a free tool to help manufacturers identify energy saving opportunities

Manufacturers stand to unlock both meaningful cost savings and emissions reductions through energy efficiency improvements. But the path to savings is often blocked by common hurdles: the high cost of energy assessment consultants, difficulty in securing capital for efficiency projects, and a lack of in-house energy management expertise. These challenges can mean that the energy efficiency projects that should be easy to implement don’t get the attention they deserve.

That's why we're proud to announce the launch of the Energy Assessment tool, a free, self-service platform designed to help manufacturing facility and plant managers identify potential energy-saving opportunities and accelerate their journey to meaningful cost reductions and climate action.

Actionable insights, accessible to all

The Energy Assessment tool is designed to break down the barriers to energy efficiency. It empowers facility managers to conduct preliminary energy assessments without needing any energy management expertise and without the cost of an on-site energy assessment.

By inputting some basic data about their facilities, users can:

  • Get customized project recommendations. The tool helps users analyze over 20 opportunities across key systems (such as air compressors, boilers, chillers, and lighting) and identifies energy efficiency projects (such as equipment upgrades, operational adjustments, and solar installations) with the highest potential for both cost and carbon reduction.
  • Assess opportunities across their portfolio. Evaluate multiple facilities to compare results and prioritize investments for the greatest impact.
  • Collaborate seamlessly. The platform is built for teamwork, allowing colleagues to work together on assessments and even invite their own upstream suppliers to join, extending the positive impact up the value chain.

Our goal is to create an easy-to-use, data-driven way to identify potential energy efficiency projects. The tool offers analyses that are typically part of an “ASHRAE Level 1” standard energy audit. It uses a robust calculation methodology and comprehensive data developed by leading engineering consulting firms. By distilling their extensive onsite experience into a self-service tool, we hope to transform what was once a complex and costly process into a simple, collaborative, and impactful one.

To ensure the tool can be easily used in key manufacturing regions, it offers language support for Chinese (simplified and traditional), Thai, and Vietnamese, in addition to English. What’s more, we’ve taken extra steps to ensure individual supplier energy assessment data remains secure and confidential. The tool was built and is managed by a third party and has been reviewed by Google to ensure it meets our stringent privacy and security standards. Suppliers using the tool can choose which other entities to collaborate with and share summary data, such as their total potential savings.

Three different images showing energy efficiency opportunities available from the Energy Assessment tool, each with a description of its energy efficiency measure, estimated average payback period, and estimated average energy savings. The first installation shows a high-efficiency air compressor replacement, offering average cost savings of 10-25% of compressed air energy with a 5-10 year payback. The second installation depicts a fan motor VFD (variable frequency drive) installation, providing average cost savings of 30-70% of total fan motor energy with a 2-10 year payback. The third image illustrates a high-efficiency compressed air dryer upgrade, yielding average cost savings of 1-5% of compressed air system energy with a 5-10 year payback.

The power of collective action

The journey to a more sustainable future is a shared one. By equipping our partners with the right resources, we can accelerate progress, reduce costs, and build a more resilient and sustainable supply chain for everyone. The Energy Assessment tool helps pave the way for our mutual success.
